Divisadero Street

Ah! You’ve found your way through the delightful maze of Louis’s home to his secluded corner under the bookstore. A stalwart soul. Pull up a chair, please. No, no, the garish red chair is reserved for Lestat, I’m afraid. The green one, perhaps? It’s quite comfortable.

Allow me to explain Louis’s filing system. (Only Lestat’s house on Prytania Street surpasses it in complexity.) The stack before you contains various editions of all the books in the Vampire Chronicles. Clicking any book’s title or cover reveals more details about the book, and the chance to order a copy for your own library, should you be so inclined.

Hardcover Jacket
Fresh blood Hardcover.
Macbeth-lover Lestat as leather-jacketed, hog-gunning rock star?!? Mais oui! What better way to contact Louis, deaf to vampiric telepathy, than by blanketing the earth with his voice?

It may come from Lestat, but he only pops in from time to time. The point of view changes as different vampires — some new, some old, some very very old — relate history as it happened to them. The Silmarillion of the Vampire Chronicles. May be out of print; make a special request.

The Tale of the Body Thief
Lestat’s third book is perhaps the most fun. If you don’t laugh at least once, you must be dead.

Hardcover Jacket
Fresh blood Hardcover.
Dubiously, this is the book that introduced Chronicles afficionados to Café du Monde. A manic rollercoaster ride, from hilarious bathroom scenes to unrepentant rape, both mortal and vampiric. That said, scenes between Louis and Lestat are insightful.

Love it or hate it, Lestat’s fourth offering is his most controversial. Hands down.

Though pushed away in disgust and out-and-out thrown across the room, the scenes of Heaven and Hell are compelling and enduring. Louis makes but a minute appearance.

Ah! Lestat’s on sabbatical and someone else gets a word in edgewise. Wonderful words indeed, even if they’re not from Louis, and much welcomed after MtD.

Armand’s story as only hinted at in IWTV and TVL. From Kiev to Venice to the good old USA, the flavors change with each locale. Louis is mentioned fondly, but makes no appearance.
